My Kitchen was founded by Soo Sung Hwang who opened the first restaurant in the food court at a mall back in 1989. At that time, Soo Hwang owned another retail business in the same shopping mall, and found the selection of foods in the food court to be simply bland. When the opportunity came, he decided to take matters into his own hands and came up with the idea for My Kitchen.

My Kitchen was an instant success. Both shoppers and Mall employees loved the food, and there was nothing else like it.
